Waqaf and ibtida are symbols in the Quran that indicate where to stop reading and where to start reading, respectively. 

• Waqaf: Indicates where to pause when reading the Quran. Waqf rules are important for accurate recitation and preserving the Quran's meaning.
• Ibtida: Indicates where to start reading after a pause. 

The Qurrāʾ introduced waqaf and ibtida symbols to help readers who aren't familiar with the language. The symbols help readers read the Quran properly without disrupting the meaning. 

Knowing the stopping place (waqaf) is a basic ability that every Muslim must have. Understanding it can make it easier for those who read and listen to increase their understanding of the meaning of the verses of the Quran.
